SmartPDF

Privacy Policy

Last updated: June 10, 2026 · Version 1.1

SmartPDF is a PDF editor and translator for iPhone. This page explains exactly what data we touch, where it goes, and what choices you have. We've kept it short on purpose.

1. Who we are

SmartPDF is an iOS app that lets you read, edit, and translate PDF documents on your iPhone with the help of AI. It's distributed exclusively through the Apple App Store.

In this policy, "we", "our", and "us" refer to the operator of SmartPDF. "You" means anyone who installs or uses the app.

We are the data controller for the information described below. To reach us about anything in this policy, write to feedback@globalpixelstudio.com.

2. Data you give us

Documents you import

When you import a PDF (via the Files picker, Photos, or by sharing one into SmartPDF from Mail / Safari / another app), the file is copied to a private storage area inside the app's sandbox on your device. Reading, thumbnail generation, and selectable-text extraction happen on device whenever possible. We do not upload your documents to our servers for storage, backup, advertising, or resale.

If you explicitly run an AI feature, SmartPDF sends only what that feature needs (see Section 5): AI Edit uploads the PDF document you are editing so the model can modify it directly and return the edited file; Translate sends a rendered image of the current page, or just the text you selected. Because a page image is sent rather than extracted text, this also works for scanned PDFs. Your documents are never sent anywhere in the background.

Edit and translate inputs

When you tap Apply on the AI Edit screen or Done on the Translate screen, the following is sent to our AI processing partner (see Section 5) so the AI model can produce a result:

The result is returned to your device. We do not retain a copy on our own servers. Our AI partner's retention is described under Third-party services.

What we never collect

SmartPDF has no login system. We do not ask for or collect your name, email, phone number, contacts, photos, or location. You don't have an account with us.

3. Data collected automatically

We use Firebase Analytics and Firebase Crashlytics (both operated by Google LLC) to understand how the app is used and to fix crashes.

Usage events

When you tap a button, change a setting, or trigger a feature, the app sends an anonymous event to Firebase. Example event names include paywall_view, library_doc_open, purchase_started, pdf_import_succeeded. We use this to learn which features people use and where they get stuck.

We never attach the contents of your documents, your Edit prompts, or the AI-generated text to these events.

Crash diagnostics

If SmartPDF crashes, Crashlytics collects: the call stack, your iOS version, your device model, available disk space at the time of the crash, and the last screen the app was on. This goes to Google so we can diagnose the bug.

Device identifier

Firebase generates an anonymous installation ID the first time you launch the app. It is not your Apple ID, IDFA, phone number, or any other identifier that follows you across other apps. Reinstalling SmartPDF generates a new ID.

Subscription state attached to events

For aggregate analytics, the app attaches your current subscription state to events as user properties: whether you're on the free or paid plan, which tier (Basic / Plus / Pro), billing cycle, and how many free AI uses you have left. This lets us answer questions like "what share of Pro users use Translate vs Edit" without identifying individuals.

What we don't do: we don't use IDFA / App Tracking Transparency, we don't build advertising profiles, we don't share data with data brokers, and we don't track you across other apps or websites.

4. Subscriptions and payments

All paid plans are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. We never see your credit card number, billing address, or full name. Apple shares back with us only:

Apple's handling of your payment data is governed by Apple's own privacy policy: apple.com/legal/privacy.

5. Third-party services

Firebase Analytics & Crashlytics (Google LLC)

Anonymous usage events and crash reports, as described in Section 3. Data is stored on Google infrastructure in the United States and other Google regions. Privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.

OpenAI (OpenAI, L.L.C.)

OpenAI provides the AI models that power SmartPDF's Edit and Translate features. Only when you explicitly tap Apply or Done is anything sent to the OpenAI API over HTTPS. For AI Edit, the PDF document you are editing plus your instruction are uploaded; the model edits the file in a temporary, isolated sandbox and returns the edited PDF, after which SmartPDF deletes the uploaded file from OpenAI. For Translate, a rendered image of the current page (or the text you selected) plus your instruction are sent. The result is returned to your device; nothing is stored on our servers.

Under OpenAI's API data usage policies, content you send through the API is not used to train OpenAI's models and is retained for up to 30 days for abuse and misuse monitoring before deletion. Privacy policy: openai.com/policies/privacy-policy.

Apple StoreKit

Subscriptions and in-app purchases. See Section 4.

Umeng (友盟统计) — China region only

If you download SmartPDF from the mainland China App Store, the app additionally reports anonymous usage events to Umeng (Beijing) Information Technology Co., Ltd., which is the analytics service most widely used in China. The events sent to Umeng mirror what we send to Firebase. Privacy policy: umeng.com/page/policy.

Outside of mainland China, Umeng is not enabled and no data is sent to it.

6. How long we keep data

7. Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to:

To exercise any of these rights, write to feedback@globalpixelstudio.com. Because we do not collect names or emails, we may ask you for additional information to help locate your records — typically your Firebase installation ID, which you can retrieve by emailing us with your approximate install date and device model.

California residents (CCPA / CPRA). SmartPDF does not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under California law. You may still request access or deletion using the contact above.

EU / EEA / UK residents (GDPR / UK GDPR). The legal bases for our processing are: (a) performance of the contract under which we provide you the app and any subscription, and (b) our legitimate interest in understanding how the app is used and fixing bugs. You have the rights described above plus the right to data portability where applicable.

Brazil residents (LGPD). The data we collect, why we collect it, and your rights are as described in this policy.

8. Children's privacy

SmartPDF is intended for users aged 13 and older (16 in some EU jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect data from children under this age. If you believe a child has used SmartPDF and that data has been collected, write to us and we'll delete the relevant records.

9. International data transfers

Firebase and OpenAI process data on servers in the United States and other countries. By using SmartPDF, you understand that data may be transferred there. For users in the EU and the UK, these transfers are covered by Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission and the UK Information Commissioner's Office, executed between us and the relevant providers.

10. Security

All network communication between SmartPDF and our processing partners uses HTTPS with TLS 1.2 or higher. PDFs remain on your device unless you explicitly invoke the Edit or Translate features. iOS's app sandbox keeps SmartPDF's local files isolated from other apps on your phone.

No system is perfectly secure. If we ever discover a breach affecting your data, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.

11. Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes (such as adding a new third-party service or starting to collect a new category of data) will be highlighted inside the app or in the App Store release notes.
