Mushroom ID suggests mushroom identities from one to three photos on your iPhone. This page explains exactly what data we touch, where it goes, and what choices you have. We've kept it short on purpose.
Mushroom ID is an iOS app that identifies mushrooms from one to three photos of the same specimen using AI, and provides a library of educational articles about wild mushrooms. It's distributed exclusively through the Apple App Store.
In this policy, "we", "our", and "us" refer to the operator of Mushroom ID. "You" means anyone who installs or uses the app.
We are the data controller for the information described below. To reach us about anything in this policy, write to feedback@globalpixelstudio.com.
To identify a mushroom, you either take a photo with the camera or pick an existing photo from your library. You can provide up to three photos of the same specimen from different angles. The app accesses the images you capture or select — it does not scan, index, or upload the rest of your photo library.
When you start an identification, the selected images are sent over an encrypted connection to our AI processing partner (see Section 5) so the model can recognize the mushroom and return a result. The result is shown on your device. We do not keep a copy of your photo on our own servers, and we do not use your photos to build a profile of you.
A selected photo may contain capture coordinates. The app reads these on your device and offers a separate choice about using the capture area. Only if you agree, coordinates rounded to the nearest 0.5 degrees are included with the identification request. The app does not request your current GPS location. Images are re-encoded for upload without their original location metadata. You can identify without sharing a capture area.
If you choose to save an identification result, the app writes an image to your photo library using the permission you grant at that moment. This happens only when you tap save.
Previously redeemed promotional access is stored locally on your device. Promotional codes are validated by the app. A successful redemption or failed attempt can generate an analytics event; this does not send your photos or location to analytics.
The optional feedback board uses WishKit. If you submit feedback or vote, WishKit processes the content and interaction together with a pseudonymous user identifier. Feedback posted to the board may be visible to other users. Avoid including private information. If you email support, we receive the email address and content you send.
We use Firebase Analytics (operated by Google LLC) and, where applicable, Umeng (友盟) analytics to understand how the app is used and to fix problems.
When you open a screen, tap a button, or trigger a feature, the app sends
a usage event associated with SDK identifiers. Example event names include
identify_start, identify_success,
paywall_view, and paywall_subscribe_tap. We use this
to learn which features people use and where they get stuck.
We do not attach your photos, photo capture coordinates, or full identification reports to these analytics events. Events can include a candidate common name and visual resemblance estimate, photo count, selected plan, success or error category, and processing duration.
If the app misbehaves or crashes, we may receive basic diagnostic information such as your iOS version, device model, app version, language, and the screen the app was on. This helps us diagnose and fix bugs.
Analytics SDKs process pseudonymous installation or device identifiers, app and device information, and network information such as an IP address. Firebase may derive an approximate location from the IP address. These identifiers are not your name or Apple ID. We do not request IDFA access or use these events for advertising profiles.
For aggregate analytics, the app attaches your current subscription state to events as user properties — for example, whether you're on the free or paid plan. This lets us answer questions like "what share of subscribers use identification most" in aggregate reports.
Paid plans are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. We never see your credit card number, billing address, or full name. Apple shares back with us only:
Firebase Analytics can also record purchase and subscription events, including product and purchase value information. Apple's handling of your payment data is governed by Apple's own privacy policy: apple.com/legal/privacy.
The app calls Google's Gemini 3 Flash through Replicate. When you start identification, selected images and any confirmed coarse photo capture area are transmitted over HTTPS for model processing. Our app does not maintain a separate server copy. Processing by Replicate and its model providers is governed by the applicable provider policies. Privacy policy: replicate.com/privacy.

The app uses the Umeng analytics SDK, operated by Umeng (Beijing) Information Technology Co., Ltd., to report usage events and basic device information. The events sent to Umeng mirror what we send to Firebase and contain no photos. Privacy policy: umeng.com/page/policy.
Provides the optional feedback board, processing submitted content, pseudonymous user identifiers, and interactions such as votes. Service information: wishkit.io.
Result screens can request reference photos from iNaturalist and its image hosts using a candidate's scientific name. These requests include normal network information, such as an IP address; they do not upload your specimen photos or confirmed capture area to iNaturalist. To exercise any of these rights, write to feedback@globalpixelstudio.com. Because use of the app does not require an account, we may ask you for additional information to help locate your records.
California residents (CCPA / CPRA). Mushroom ID does not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under California law. You may still request access or deletion using the contact above.
EU / EEA / UK residents (GDPR / UK GDPR). The legal bases for our processing are: (a) performance of the contract under which we provide you the app and any subscription, and (b) our legitimate interest in understanding how the app is used and fixing bugs. You have the rights described above plus the right to data portability where applicable.
Brazil residents (LGPD). The data we collect, why we collect it, and your rights are as described in this policy.
Mushroom ID is intended for users aged 13 and older (16 in some EU jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect data from children under this age. If you believe a child has used the app and that data has been collected, write to us and we'll delete the relevant records.
Replicate, Firebase, and other providers may process data on servers in the United States and other countries. By using Mushroom ID, you understand that data may be transferred there. For users in the EU and the UK, these transfers are covered by Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission and the UK Information Commissioner's Office, executed between us and the relevant providers.
All network communication between Mushroom ID and our processing partners uses HTTPS with TLS 1.2 or higher. Your photos stay on your device unless you explicitly start an identification. iOS's app sandbox keeps the app's local files isolated from other apps on your phone.
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever discover a breach affecting your data, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes (such as adding a new third-party service or starting to collect a new category of data) will be highlighted inside the app or in the App Store release notes.
