Mushroom ID identifies mushrooms from a photo on your iPhone. This page explains exactly what data we touch, where it goes, and what choices you have. We've kept it short on purpose.
Mushroom ID is an iOS app that identifies mushrooms from a photo using AI, and provides a library of educational articles about wild mushrooms. It's distributed exclusively through the Apple App Store.
In this policy, "we", "our", and "us" refer to the operator of Mushroom ID. "You" means anyone who installs or uses the app.
We are the data controller for the information described below. To reach us about anything in this policy, write to feedback@globalpixelstudio.com.
To identify a mushroom, you either take a photo with the camera or pick an existing photo from your library. With your permission, the app accesses only the single image you capture or select — it does not scan, index, or upload the rest of your photo library.
When you start an identification, that one image is sent over an encrypted connection to our AI processing partner (see Section 5) so the model can recognize the mushroom and return a result. The result is shown on your device. We do not keep a copy of your photo on our own servers, and we do not use your photos to build a profile of you.
If you choose to save an identification result, the app writes an image to your photo library using the permission you grant at that moment. This happens only when you tap save.
If you enter a referral or invite code during onboarding, it is stored locally on your device and may be sent with a request to validate it. A referral code is not personal information and is not tied to your identity.
We use Firebase Analytics (operated by Google LLC) and, where applicable, Umeng (友盟) analytics to understand how the app is used and to fix problems.
When you open a screen, tap a button, or trigger a feature, the app sends
an anonymous event. Example event names include
identify_started, identify_succeeded,
paywall_view, and purchase_started. We use this
to learn which features people use and where they get stuck.
We never attach your photos or identification images to these analytics events.
If the app misbehaves or crashes, we may receive basic diagnostic information such as your iOS version, device model, app version, language, and the screen the app was on. This helps us diagnose and fix bugs.
Analytics SDKs generate an anonymous installation / instance ID the first time you launch the app. It is not your Apple ID, IDFA, phone number, or any identifier that follows you across other apps. Reinstalling the app generates a new ID.
For aggregate analytics, the app attaches your current subscription state to events as user properties — for example, whether you're on the free or paid plan. This lets us answer questions like "what share of subscribers use identification most" without identifying individuals.
Paid plans are sold and processed by Apple through the App Store using StoreKit. We never see your credit card number, billing address, or full name. Apple shares back with us only:
Apple's handling of your payment data is governed by Apple's own privacy policy: apple.com/legal/privacy.
Replicate hosts the AI model that identifies your mushroom photo. Only when you start an identification is the selected image transmitted to Replicate over HTTPS. The model returns a result; nothing is stored on our own servers. Where the option is available, we configure Replicate so that your inputs are not used to train new models. Anonymous usage events and diagnostics, as described in Section 3. Data is stored on Google infrastructure in the United States and other Google regions. Privacy policy: policies.google.com/privacy.

The app uses the Umeng analytics SDK, operated by Umeng (Beijing) Information Technology Co., Ltd., to report anonymous usage and basic device information. The events sent to Umeng mirror what we send to Firebase and contain no photos. Privacy policy: umeng.com/page/policy.

California residents (CCPA / CPRA). Mushroom ID does not "sell" or "share" personal information as those terms are defined under California law. You may still request access or deletion using the contact above.
EU / EEA / UK residents (GDPR / UK GDPR). The legal bases for our processing are: (a) performance of the contract under which we provide you the app and any subscription, and (b) our legitimate interest in understanding how the app is used and fixing bugs. You have the rights described above plus the right to data portability where applicable.
Brazil residents (LGPD). The data we collect, why we collect it, and your rights are as described in this policy.
Mushroom ID is intended for users aged 13 and older (16 in some EU jurisdictions). We do not knowingly collect data from children under this age. If you believe a child has used the app and that data has been collected, write to us and we'll delete the relevant records.
Replicate, Firebase, and other providers may process data on servers in the United States and other countries. By using Mushroom ID, you understand that data may be transferred there. For users in the EU and the UK, these transfers are covered by Standard Contractual Clauses approved by the European Commission and the UK Information Commissioner's Office, executed between us and the relevant providers.
All network communication between Mushroom ID and our processing partners uses HTTPS with TLS 1.2 or higher. Your photos stay on your device unless you explicitly start an identification. iOS's app sandbox keeps the app's local files isolated from other apps on your phone.
No system is perfectly secure. If we ever discover a breach affecting your data, we will notify you and the relevant authorities as required by law.
We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time. The "Last updated" date at the top reflects the most recent revision. Material changes (such as adding a new third-party service or starting to collect a new category of data) will be highlighted inside the app or in the App Store release notes.
